One hundred years ago school students had little opportunity or encouragement to look critically at Australia’s involvement in global conflict. In this event, ENVi’s first on the 2015 theme Belief, voice, opinions and facts, we reflect on the World War I centenary at a time when students are required to form and voice their own opinions on just about everything.
We invite experts from three cultural institutions to discuss their current and upcoming World War I exhibitions. This event also provides an opportunity to see the new Education Centre and Galleries of Remembrance at the Shrine of Remembrance.
Speakers:
- Susie May and Rebecca Hicks, NGV, Follow the Flag: Australian Artists at War 1914-1915 (24 April – 16 Aug, 2015)
- Deb Tout-Smith, Museum Victoria, World War I: Love and Sorrow
- Jean McAuslan, Shrine of Remembrance, Australia Will Be There: Victorians in the First World War (1914-19)
