Dear Museum and Gallery Educators,
Happy New Year!
The ENVi committee recently held a planning meeting to map out our program for 2018. Our purpose is to bring museum and gallery educators together to network at face-to-face events featuring topics pertinent to our profession. While all details are not yet finalised, we are planning some really exciting events. Please make note in your diary and look out for updates.
26 February (day) – ENVi Orientation Day for Museum Educators and Students. This will be a full day featuring a variety of speakers and exploring contemporary museum education issues and practice. Venues TBA.
26 February (evening) – Biennial General Meeting. Following the ENVi Orientation Day, we will have a short BGM to elect our committee. This will also feature a conversation with Andrew Hiskens from the State Library and Sacha Fawkes from the National Sports Museum on Evidence of Learning in Museums. Venue TBA.
April – The Slow Museum. What is it? Come and find out! Venue TBA.
4 June – MEET Day in Melbourne. This popular event is a precursor to the Museums Galleries Australia 2018 National Conference and is run with the MGA Evaluation and Technology networks. It will feature a keynote by Professor Genevieve Bell from Australia National University. Lightning talks from across Australia and afternoon workshops will complete this full-day event. Venue and booking information to follow.
July – Melbourne Winter Masterpieces at the NGV. Run in conjunction with MAVic, this program will provide an introduction to the exhibition, MOMA at the NGV (9 Jun – 7 Oct 2018) and access to the popular Friday evening program. A moderate cost will cover wine and finger food.
September/October – Recent Research into Museum Learning. Do you know of someone doing a doctorate or research into this topic? Please let Peter Hoban know. We want an interesting speaker at an interesting venue on a topic central to us all … followed by drinks at a bar! Venue TBA.
November – Travellers’ Tales. This popular event brings together museum folk who had the chance to travel and visit international museums. It provides us with an international snapshot and makes us envious. Venue TBA.
We will be running other events in conjunction with partner groups. Please keep a look out by following this site and for emails for updates.
Reminder: Nominations for the ENVi Committee are now open. We encourage you to join this committed group of volunteers. If you are interested in joining us please complete and submit this form by 5pm 19 February, 2018.
We look forward to catching up with you in 2018.
